Can a bath bomb change your life? Not really. Well, maybe?
Obviously a fizzy fragrant delight of a bomb, dissolved in a pleasantly delicious warm bath, can create an hour’s worth (ok, that’s just me) of peace. But can it change your life? No. But maybe yes? Self care is a very much used phrase these days and if I weren’t a retailer, I probably wouldn’t even use it here, but for all its overuse, I think it has been helpful in raising awareness of how often it is tempting to put ourselves last.
The cultural cues of work harder, faster, longer, be busy, busy, busy are really loud and obvious, but they’ve been part of us for so long that we don’t even question them anymore. So I’m really happy that the self care movement has become a thing, because sometimes I think we need a feeling of permission to feel that we can start to take care of ourselves in any way that feels good. At least I do.
Taking care of yourself may seem selfish and impossibly difficult to fit in, but it’s definitely worth it. And its necessary for good mental health, too, so don’t feel guilty about it.
So, back to the bath bomb. I see it and a lovely soap and a spa-like shower steamer as symbols in my self care. Indulging is the ultimate self care power move and, let’s face it, the gateway to honest to goodness caring for self. Maybe your indulgence is eating a favorite food or bingeing a favorite show or reading for 3 hours. Whatever it is, I hope you do it a whole lot more in 2023. You deserve it…and we all know it!
